AKOA Weighs in On Board Certification

The Board Certification model proposed by the JBCPT was discussed at the recent AKOA Membership Meeting in Kodiak, AK June 12, 2009.  AKOA members comments were about half in support and half opposed.  More than half of those that were opposed to the model indicated that their opposition stemmed from the over-weighting of points given to residents.  The AKOA Board of Directors discussed the issue at length and have voted to voice the memberships concerns and allow the Alaska delegate (AKOA President James Falconer, Jr, OD) to consider any final resolution or proposal at the AOA's House of Delegates at Optometry's Meeting and to vote accordingly to continue to advance the profession of Optometry.  Thank you to all those you participated in the discussion both by email and at the Membership meeting.
